#4 Ready to scale up?
The Dutch Council of State ruled positively on the final permits of the Porthos project earlier this month, and so the first major CO2 transport and storage project in the Netherlands can go ahead. As Porthos prepares its Final Investment Decision (FID), a second, even larger scale CCS infrastructure project, Aramis, is now preparing for the next project phase (Front End Engineering Design (FEED). In addition several operators are also developing storage capacity and storage projects in the North Sea. While these ambitious and large-scale Dutch projects are gaining more and more attention and traction, Danish, UK and Norwegian CCS projects are also progressing their CCS policies and projects in the North Sea area.
Register for this eventThe draft Net-Zero Industrial Act, setting a storage capacity goal of 50 megatons CO2 as from 2030 is a further stimulus to the large scale CCS deployment in Europe. Currently, there are 70 CCUS projects in development in Europe, but the majority is only in early stage. This raises the question: do we scale up fast enough to meet the 2030 target?
Together with – amongst others – the Norwegian government, Porthos, Aramis, and (scientific) experts in the field of CCS, we will focus on the current status of some of the most staged European projects while at the same time taking into account the broader (policy) picture.
